Growth is sampled daily from GitHub’s own star counts rather than estimated, so a rate only appears after two weeks of observations. Until then a project shows how far through that window it is — which is the honest answer, and better than a number we cannot stand behind. Maintenance is read fresh from GitHub every time this page is built, so it needs no such wait.
